I work on a time and materials basis, as explained below.

Labour is charged by the hour or part thereof at £35-00 to include time on site, procurement of materials or plant, design work, preparation of reports and attendance of appointments with consultants, utilities representatives, making telephone calls etc. Anything in connection with your project. Call outs are charged at £80-00 if response causes inconvenience to my planned day or evening. If I attend between 6 and 9pm this is charged at time and a half. After 9pm and through to 8 am is double time. Bank holidays during the hours 10am to 6pm is double time.

I am not VAT registered, therefore my labour is not surcharged. I have no intention of becoming an unpaid tax collector. If the job involves considerable expense in materials I will arrange for you to pay my suppliers directly as I may at certain times wish to limit my accountable turnover.

Materials are charged at cost with no markup, you pay what I pay and benefit from any preferential discounts I have negotiated. Scanned copies of suppliers' invoices are emailed to you for information and VAT recovery if appropriate.

Estimates of costs can be provided and are prepared to be as accurate as possible with the information available.

I do not undertake fixed price work as no job proceeds as expected and to work on that basis results in a job built to a price, not required standards. Fixed prices are fine for the repair of motor cars or washing machines where the time and motion man at the factory knows exactly how long it takes to replace a particular component.

Expenses are charged for parking, TfL Congestion Charges and travel.

Travelling time is charged at half my applicable hourly rate. I normally undertake work around NW London and adjacent counties including Middesex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and the London Postal Districts of N1-N20, NW1-NW7, W1-W7 and SW1- SW20. For valued clients or projects of particular interest I will travel further afield. Travel within my immediate neighbourhood is not normally chargeable.

Invoices rendered are payable by return with cheques drawn in favour of Paul Holroyd or by electronic transfer.

I will not work for niggards or those who are completely unrealistic as to the cost of a job done properly. I no longer have the inclination nor patience to deal with people who behave in that manner. Those who want to haggle or seek discount, alter terms, raise spurious queries at the time of settlement have been found with bitter experience to be unreliable and in some cases downright devious. You would not work for less than your worth, why should I? Above all I have been recommended to you by a friend, colleague or family member as a reliable and trustworthy contractor; I do not advertise and some of my clients are of twenty five or more years standing.
